Configuring Mac Mail, Outlook 2011, and ThunderBird


Mac OS X 10.9 – Mail version 7 (IMAP)


1. Open Mac Mail.
2. If this is the first time you've opened Mail, you will be automatically prompted to add an account. If you have an account configured already, click on Mail --> Preferences. Select the Accounts tab and select the + to add an account.
3. Select Add Other Mail Account… and click Continue.


4. In the Add a Mail Account window, enter in your full name, email address, and password. Click on Create. It may display Account must be manually configured. Click on Next.



5. In the Incoming Mail Server Info window, select IMAP and enter your imap server name for the Mail Server and your User Name and Password. Click on Next. It may say Additional account information required. Click on Next.


If the window below appears, enter 993 for the Port, check Use SSL, and select Password for the Authentication.  Click on Next.


6. In the Outgoing Mail Server Info window, enter your smtp server name and your User name and Password. Click on Create. It may say Additional account information required. Click on Next.


If the window below appears, enter 587 for the port, check Use SSL, and select Password for Authentication.  Click Create.


7. Mail is now configured and your email will start downloading momentarily.



The steps for configuring EWS for the following Mac OS X - Mail versions are similar.

Mac OS X 10.8 - Mail version 6 (EWS)
Mac OS X 10.7 - Mail version 5 (EWS)
Mac OS X 10.6 - Mail version 4 (EWS)


1. Open Mac Mail.
2. If this is the first time you've opened Mail, you will be automatically prompted to add an account. If you have an account configured already, click on Mail --> Preferences. Select the Accounts tab and select the + to add an account.
3. In the Welcome to Mail window, enter in your Full Name, Email Address, and Password. Click on Continue. If it prompts you for your User Name, enter it and then click Continue.



4. In the Account Summary window, click Create.
5. Mail is now configured and your email will start downloading momentarily.


Configuring Outlook 2011 (Exchange)


1. Open Outlook 2011.
2. If this is the first time you've opened Outlook 2011, you will be automatically prompted to add an account. If you have an account configured already, click on Tools --> Accounts from the menu bar. Click the + and add an Exchange… account.
3. In the Welcome to Outlook for Mac window, check Make Outlook the default application for e-mail, calendar, and contacts.  Click on Add Account.


4. In the Add an Account window, click on Exchange Account.

5. In the Enter your Exchange account information, enter the following and click Add Account.
a. E-Mail Address
b. Select User Name and Password for the Method.
c. User name *include Domain\ in front of the user name.
d. Password
e. Check configure automatically.



6. Exit out of the Accounts window.
7. Outlook 2011 is now configured and your email will start downloading momentarily.



Mozilla Thunderbird 24.3.0


1. Open Thunderbird.
2. Click on Tools --> Account Settings.  (The menu bar will need to be visible to display Tools)
3. In the Account Settings window, click on Account Actions and select Add Mail Account…
4. In the Mail Account Setup window, enter Your name, Email address, and Password. Click on Continue.


5. The mail account will need to be manually configured.  Enter in the following information and click Done.  The image below shows IMAP which is preferred, but the information for Pop is also listed below.

Incoming
     IMAP
          1. Server hostname: imap server name
          2. Port: 993
          3. SSL:  SSL/TLS
          4. Authentication: Normal Password
     POP
          1. Server hostname: Mobilepop.johnshopkins.edu
          2. Port: 995
          3. SSL: SSL/TLS
          4. Authentication: Normal Password
     Outgoing
          1. SMTP: SMTP Server name
          2. Port: 587
          3. SSL: STARTTLS
          4. Authentication: Normal Password
          5. Username


6. In the Account settings Window, click OK.
7. Thunderbird is now configured and your email will start downloading momentarily.\
